Perfect Harmony With EFCL

Let's Make Music Together

In collaboration with one of our League volunteers and community partner, Tom Barker (of The Parklanders) we’ve compiled a survey about all things music and Community Leagues. This survey will help us explore how we can better support Leagues in developing musical programming and events. Take 10 minutes to fill out the survey and join us on October 2 to discuss our findings, learn about how you can run more musical programimng at your League.

Friends and Neighbours Program! Whoo Doggie.

Why Join the Friends and Neighbours Program?

The Federation of Community Leagues has been a great help to me and other community music lovers.  And it's not only music.  Any business or organization wanting to link up with communities we live in can join.  You get to meet other socially oriented organizations.  You get posted on their website and you get notifications about happenings in the city.

Let's hold a musical event! But how??

Tips from a Superstar: Catherine Jevic

a Music Event Superstar: Catherine Jevic

I asked my friend Catherine to share some Hot Takeaways from doing musical events at Sherbrooke CL for the past few years.  "Rock the Park" combines craft vendors, car shows, fundraising BBQ, beer garden and league membership drives. Wow! What a show!

Check out the Sherbrooke Newsletter on Facebook to find out about all the terrific events Sherbrooke hosts, many of which involve music.

We can learn so much about how events (musical or otherwise) mix together to synergize into a vibrant community league experience.

Thanks Catherine!

Strategic Approaches to Support for Community Music in Edmonton's Community Leagues

This document contains interesting ideas for how to get started with a variety of musical events in your community.  You'll find examples of musical integration done by other leagues in Edmonton.  These are great exemplars done by fellow CL leaders.

Musical Events Listed on EFCL Website

This document has great examples for event and program planners. Last June I scanned the EFCL website for musical events (of all types) and tried to take a quick inventory, like a snapshot. You might find some good ideas on this page.

How to train a music coordinator

Make it Official!!

If you have thought of creating a position for a Music Coordinator, look no further! This document contains all the skills needed for the job.  Also, it was built to accommodate EFCL requirements including the strategic plan, the structure of leagues and types of league facilities. The activities of a music coordinator could fit in with existing roles, like “events” or “social,” so you don’t need to create a whole new role and email.

Also, the ideas in this document could pertain to other types of league initiatives like art, wellness (physical or mental), writing (creative, poetic, recitations, etc.), gardening, genealogy, or whatever topic you like.  The idea is that these themes or topics can map onto your existing programs and recurring events.  In that way you might be able to get more people involved.
